Little Things
Little things,
Like the sun smiling down
From the glowing sky.
Little things,
Like the cool morning dew
On bright green grass.
Little things,
Like the dark, gloomy rain
Thundering down on a rotten day.
Little things,
Like the twinkling stars
Breathing good dreams upon our heads.
Little things,
Like shadowed leaves
Sprinkled across the yard.
Little things.
Haunted
Voice calling unheard,
Saying but a single word,
Cars surround with blaring alarms,
People crying in each other’s arms,
All around all falls is tears,
Lasting for a thousand years,
Men in suits search the bed stained red,
Investigating the body of the dead,
And sitting on top a flickering lamppost,
Sits the little lonely ghost.
Natural
The cool, gentle, whispering breeze,
The sharp, rushing, ice-cold river,
The soft, leafy, home-making green leaves,
The blazing, warm, bright sun’s rays,
The patter and pitter of soft rain.
The growls and honks and screams of machinery,
The whirring and thudding of human construction,
The cries and calls of creatures leaving,
The wars and blood and expansion,
The rivalry, destruction, and death.
Lap Cat
I sit, you jump
Now in my lap
Purrs and rubs
Sweet little gutsmusher
Knead, paw
Knead, paw
Eventually fall asleep
And now I’m stuck.
Candle
I am a string, wrapped in colorful wax.
I stand with the crowd, following
Exactly the same as the others.
We make packs and travel
Soon found and taken to ritual.
The birthday.
I am a topping, standing upon a cake.
I stand among the crowd again.
A lighter approaches. They open the door.
I am a spark, glowing brightly with help.
I now see the world. I am taught to glow.
I still stand, glowing brighter by the day.
Some burn out, but I still burn as a flame.
Dear Little Tommy
Dear Little Tommy,
Where are you now?
Are you smiling down from the stars?
Are you running across soft clouds in heaven?
Or are you walking as a ghost with us now?
Dear Little Tommy,
How are you now?
Are you happy away from the pain?
Are you sad you had to leave us?
Or are you peaceful in the sky?
My Cat
Sweet as sugar,
Quiet as a mouse,
Purrs loud as thunder,
Soft as a cloud.
Yes, cuddly as can be,
But has teeth like daggers,
Piecing skin like it’s paper
With a hiss so threatening.
Ferocious as a lion,
Hungry as a pig,
Playful as a puppy,
It’s my cat and always will be.
The Rainforest (Version 1)
Rainforests are a world undiscovered,
By the canopy layer they are covered.
Many plants and animals live there;
Would a tree salamander crawl in you hair?
Maybe you will find a great big snake,
And to get rid of it you will need a rake.
There you can find bromeliads and frogs in their tanks,
To get across the canopy, you will walk on planks.
The most beautiful roof in the world is here,
This is the place I always want to be near!
The Rainforest (Version 2)
The rainforest,
A pretty place covered in dripping leaves,
Sounds filling the humid air.
Hanging, large, leafy canopies block out the sky,
Water constantly seeping down your back,
The rainforest.
The creatures,
Shrieking, swooping, crying, howling, hissing,
Mosquitoes buzzing loudly in your ear,
Constantly smacking yourself against bites.
Monkeys screeching at every hour, snakes hissing at every turn,
Jaguars prowling at night, frogs slicked in colorful poison,
The creatures.
Shriek, hiss, climb, prowl, buzz, drip, swish.
Shriek, hiss, climb, prowl, buzz, drip, swish.
Shrinking, special, filled with creatures,
The rainforest.
The Taiga
It’s the biggest biome of them all,
Below the Arctic is where it will fall,
“A boreal forest”, it’s sometimes called
The taiga is where the wood-mice have crawled.
It is filled with caribou and moose,
And you can probably see a goose.
The taiga is both cold and hot,
The taiga is the very best spot!*
The Ocean
The sparkling, shining rippling blue,
Majestic, but dangerous too.
As ocean waves as tall as houses
Can destroy with the force of thousands.
And grabbing you with it’s mighty hand,
Drags you far, far from land.
Giant waves rush over your head,
Pulling you away from the surface again.
And while the current drags you to and fro,
Know that you were alive not long ago.
Grapes
Hangs upon a climbing vine,
Lavender balls with a gleaming shine,
Can be found upon a farm,
More growing on each greedy arm,
Don’t choke on these tiny shapes,
Worship your friends, the little grapes.
